Can you do all three in 7 days?
Yes, but the route becomes transfer-heavy. You will have very little room for a cancelled balloon, weather changes or a relaxed coast day. If you only have one week and Cappadocia is essential, the 7-day Istanbul and Cappadocia itinerary is usually stronger than forcing Fethiye into the same trip.

Ten days gives each destination enough time to feel worthwhile. You can see Istanbul beyond one sightseeing day, keep more than one Cappadocia morning available, and still finish with two full Fethiye-area days after the transfer.

Days 1–3: Istanbul before Cappadocia and Fethiye
Use the first days for the headline sights, then give the city one neighbourhood-and-Bosphorus day.

Historic Istanbul

Bosphorus and neighbourhoods

Days 4–6: Cappadocia with a balloon-weather backup
The main planning mistake is leaving the balloon until the final morning.
Fly from Istanbul to Cappadocia
Turkish Airlines currently lists direct Istanbul to Nevsehir flights at about 1 hour 20 minutes. Kayseri is the other major gateway. Compare both airports against your hotel transfer and your later Fethiye connection rather than choosing only by airfare.
Balloon morning + central Cappadocia
Book the balloon for your first full morning if you plan to fly. After breakfast, use the rest of the day for Goreme Open Air Museum, Pasabag, Zelve, Avanos or a lighter valley walk depending on your energy.
Underground city + valleys
Choose a Green Tour-style day if you want an underground city, viewpoints and a broader regional route without renting a car. Independent travellers can instead combine one underground city with a valley walk and sunset.

Option 1: Direct Goreme to Fethiye coach
Current coach listings show several daily departures, with the fastest listed journey around 11 hours 44 minutes. This is long, but it has one important advantage: you avoid airport transfers and a connection. An evening or overnight-style departure can work for travellers who sleep reasonably well on coaches.
Option 2: Fly toward Dalaman
Dalaman is the airport for Fethiye. Current airline listings show Kayseri-Dalaman tickets on selected September 2026 dates, while Nevsehir-Dalaman availability is much thinner. The important point is to inspect the exact itinerary: a ticket being sold does not automatically mean a useful nonstop flight. Compare total travel time, connection length and baggage rules against the direct coach.
Should you break the journey?
If you dislike long travel days and have 12 to 14 days, you can break the route with an extra stop. Antalya is the most obvious major alternative, but adding it changes the purpose of this itinerary. For a focused three-base trip, one long transfer day is usually cleaner than adding another hotel.
