Why this route works
The three stops give you very different sides of Turkey without creating a complicated transport chain. Istanbul is the city-and-history block, Cappadocia is the landscape-and-experience block, and Antalya is the coast-and-archaeology block. Start with four nights in Istanbul

Fly from Istanbul to Cappadocia
Protect Day 5 as a transfer day and aim to arrive with enough time for a relaxed evening or sunset.
For a two-week trip, flying is usually the most efficient way to move from Istanbul to Cappadocia. Direct Istanbul to Nevsehir flights are available, and Kayseri is the other major airport used for Cappadocia. Choose between NAV and ASR by comparing the whole journey: departure airport in Istanbul, flight time, fare and the road transfer to your hotel.
Once you arrive, use a prearranged shuttle or private transfer to Goreme, Uchisar or your chosen base. Do not plan a long full-day tour for arrival day. A sunset viewpoint, an easy walk around Goreme or dinner with an early night is enough.
Give Cappadocia three full days
The extra day is what turns Cappadocia from a balloon stop into a proper destination.
Balloon morning + northern highlights
If you want to fly, book the balloon for your first full morning. After breakfast, explore Goreme Open Air Museum, Pasabag, Zelve, Avanos and nearby viewpoints, or use a Red Tour-style route if you prefer organised transport.
Underground city + southern Cappadocia
Choose Derinkuyu or Kaymakli Underground City, then combine it with Ihlara Valley, Selime or a Green Tour-style circuit. If the balloon was cancelled on Day 6, this morning can act as your first backup opportunity.
Valley day + slower Cappadocia
Use the third full day to walk Red, Rose or Pigeon Valley, spend more time in Uchisar, add horseback riding or an ATV sunset experience, or simply slow down. If balloon weather has been poor, Day 8 gives you another chance before leaving the region.
Goreme as the practical base
Easy access to tour pickups, restaurants, walking routes and airport shuttles makes Goreme simple for travellers without a car.

Day 9: travel from Cappadocia to Antalya
This is the second major transfer of the trip. Compare direct-flight schedules from Kayseri with the longer road options.
At the time of this guide's September 2026 review, direct Kayseri–Antalya services are listed on selected schedules, while Nevsehir–Antalya generally requires a connection. Flight patterns can change by season, so check the exact date before deciding which Cappadocia airport to use for your southbound journey.
If the direct flight time does not work, an intercity coach or private road transfer is the main alternative. The road journey is much longer than the flight, so treat it as a full transfer day rather than trying to combine it with major sightseeing.
After arriving in Antalya, check in and spend the evening in Kaleici. Walking the old streets, harbour and city walls is a better first evening than adding another long excursion.
Finish with four full days around Antalya
Use Antalya as more than a beach stop: old town, archaeology, waterfalls and the Mediterranean all fit comfortably into this part of the trip.
Kaleici + Duden Waterfalls
Start with Antalya's old town, Hadrian's Gate, the harbour and a slow lunch. Later, add Duden Waterfalls or Konyaalti depending on your interests and weather. Keep this as a city-focused day after the previous day's travel.
Perge, Aspendos and Side
Use one full day for the major ancient sites east of Antalya. Perge and Aspendos combine especially well; Side can be added if the day is organised efficiently. A guided day tour is useful here if you do not want to rent a car or coordinate several separate transfers.
Choose the Mediterranean
In warmer months, make this your boat, swimming or beach day. Depending on the season and where you stay, compare an Antalya boat trip, a Suluada-style excursion, Konyaalti, Lara or a quieter coastal day. In winter, replace sea time with museums, archaeology or another city day.
Keep the final full day flexible
Use your last full day for the experience you did not want to rush: another beach, a hammam, Antalya Archaeology Museum, a cable-car or mountain excursion, shopping, or simply a slow final afternoon in Kaleici.
Do not treat Antalya as only a resort stop.
Kaleici, Perge, Aspendos, waterfalls and the coast give you enough variety for several days even if you are not planning a beach holiday.
Depart from Antalya or connect back to Istanbul
Your final-day plan depends on the international ticket, not on adding one more attraction.
If your international airline serves Antalya directly, an open-jaw ticket can save you from backtracking. If you need to connect through Istanbul, leave a generous buffer between separate tickets or consider returning the evening before an early long-haul departure.
Do not build a major excursion into Day 14 unless your flight is genuinely late. Airport transfers, traffic and check-out timing can turn a relaxed final morning into a stressful one.

Do you need a rental car?
No. Istanbul is easier without one, Cappadocia can be handled with airport transfers and tours, and central Antalya does not require a car. A short rental can still be useful around Antalya if you want independent archaeology or coastal day trips, but it is optional.
What if there is no useful Cappadocia–Antalya direct flight?
Compare an intercity coach with a connecting flight. A direct coach can be simpler than flying back through Istanbul, but it uses much more of the day. Choose by door-to-door time, not only by the flight duration shown in a search result.
Best areas to stay in Istanbul, Cappadocia and Antalya
With several nights in each place, location has a bigger effect on the trip than changing hotels for every attraction.
