Many walkers prefer starting near Uchisar and finishing around Goreme. The route still undulates, so do not treat it as a completely downhill path.

Look high on the tuff walls for carved openings and lofts. They are the cultural feature that gives the valley its name.
Uchisar views
Near the Uchisar side, the castle rises above the landscape and gives the walk a strong visual anchor.
Fairy chimneys and cliffs
The route passes through soft volcanic formations, eroded walls and narrow sections that show Cappadocia at walking pace.
Orchards and seasonal colour
Depending on season, greener sections, fruit trees and changing vegetation soften the otherwise dry volcanic scenery.
Wayfinding was upgraded in 2026, but this is still a natural trail.
On 6 August 2026, the Cappadocia Area Presidency announced that old signs in Pigeon Valley had been replaced and additional warning, direction and distance signs had been installed at critical points to improve safety and reduce the risk of visitors getting lost.
That does not make the trail foolproof. Weather, erosion and local conditions can affect paths. Start with daylight, carry water and follow current signs rather than relying only on an old online map.

This is one of the easiest ways to connect a viewpoint, a proper walk and a town stop without repeating similar landscapes.
Uchisar Castle
Start with the summit panorama if the weather is clear, then descend toward the valley rather than driving straight back to Goreme.
Pigeon Valley
Walk the main route at a comfortable pace, stopping for pigeon houses, rock formations and views back toward Uchisar.
Goreme
Finish with lunch or coffee. If you still have energy and time, continue later to Goreme Open Air Museum rather than squeezing it into the same walk.
The valley is easy to do independently if you are comfortable following natural trails.
