Urgup & Temenni Hill Cappadocia Guide
See a different side of Cappadocia: panoramic Temenni Hill, Urgup's stone streets and town life, with an easy route to the Three Beauties and the southern Cappadocia sights.
Urgup is worth more than a drive-through on the way to the Three Beauties.
Urgup is one of Cappadocia's main towns. Its centre gives you cafes, local streets, stone architecture and an easy climb to Temenni Hill, the town's best-known panorama.
For a first visit, the simplest plan is to walk the centre, climb Temenni Hill, then continue to the Three Beauties. If you have a car or driver, add Ortahisar, Mustafapasa or Gomeda Valley.
Two to three hours is enough for the hill and a relaxed town walk. Give Urgup half a day if you also want lunch, local wine culture or nearby sights.
The easiest panoramic view in central Urgup.
Urgup Municipality describes Temenni Hill as an 80-metre rock hill in the town centre with 360-degree views. The name is linked to the tradition of making wishes at the shrine on the summit.
See Urgup from above
The summit opens across the town, stone buildings and surrounding Cappadocia landscape. In clear weather, distant Mount Erciyes may also be visible.
A short central-town climb
The municipality's 2025 Urgup guide describes a rock-cut tunnel of roughly 80–100 metres on the route toward the viewing area. Wear shoes with grip and take your time on uneven sections.
10:00–20:00
As checked in September 2026, Urgup Municipality lists Temenni Hill as open from 10:00 to 20:00. Re-check the official page before travel because operating hours can change.
Late light works well
Morning is usually quieter. Late afternoon and early evening give softer light across the town, but do not arrive too close to closing time if you want a relaxed visit.
What to do after the viewpoint.
Urgup is a practical place to slow the itinerary down and see everyday Cappadocia beyond the valley trails.
Stone streets and old houses
Walk away from the main road and look for the town's traditional stone facades, carved details and older neighbourhood streets. This is more about atmosphere than one single monument.
Cappadocia wine tradition
Urgup is closely associated with Cappadocia's wine culture. If tasting is part of your day, compare current winery opening arrangements locally and plan transport so nobody needs to drive after drinking.
Three Beauties
The Three Beauties are just outside central Urgup and make the obvious next photo stop. They are already covered in a separate Going2Turkey guide.
Use Urgup for lunch or dinner
The town is a sensible place to stop between sightseeing routes. Keep the schedule flexible instead of driving back and forth to Goreme for every meal.
Temenni Hill is easy to add, but check the official hours before you go.
The municipal visitor page currently publishes a 10:00–20:00 schedule. The hill is in central Urgup, so you do not need a guided tour simply to see the viewpoint and walk the town.
Weather matters more than people expect. Wind, rain, snow or icy surfaces can make exposed rock and steps uncomfortable. Use footwear with grip and do not force the climb if conditions are poor.
Check Urgup Municipality's Temenni Hill page →Three sensible ways to use Urgup in your Cappadocia itinerary.
Urgup + Temenni Hill
Walk the centre, climb the hill and stop for coffee or lunch. Best when your day is already busy.
Urgup + Three Beauties + Ortahisar
Good for viewpoints, town atmosphere and a rock-castle village without committing to a long hike.
Urgup + Mustafapasa + Gomeda
Choose this when you want stone architecture, a historic village and a valley walk rather than the busiest central Cappadocia circuit.
You do not need a tour for Temenni Hill.
Use a tour only if it solves transport for the rest of your Cappadocia day.
Explore Urgup independently
Temenni Hill and the central streets are straightforward without a guide. This gives you control over timing, cafes, photography and the Three Beauties stop.
Green Tour with Urgup pickup
The linked GetYourGuide tour currently lists Urgup pickup and covers Derinkuyu, Ihlara and Selime. It does not list Temenni Hill as a standard stop, so use it for a separate full sightseeing day, not as a replacement for this Urgup walk.
