Saklikent Gorge Guide
Plan Saklikent National Park near Fethiye: current park hours, seasonal canyon access, boardwalk and water-walk conditions, what to wear, how long to stay, Tlos pairing and tour options.
Saklikent is a cool-water canyon stop that works best when you understand the difference between seeing the gorge and walking deeper into it.
Saklikent Gorge lies inside Saklikent National Park on the Mugla–Antalya provincial border, east of Fethiye. The park was declared a national park in 1996, and official regional tourism information describes an approximately 18 km canyon with very high, narrow rock walls.
For many visitors, the first experience is straightforward: enter the park, follow the raised walkway into the gorge and reach the cold spring-water area. From there, a deeper canyon walk becomes a different activity because you may need to step directly into fast, very cold water and continue over wet, uneven rock.
Allow around 1.5–3 hours for a normal visit. Stay toward the shorter end if you mainly want the boardwalk, canyon views and lunch; allow longer if conditions are suitable and you plan to wade farther into the gorge.
Six parts of Saklikent worth understanding before you arrive.
Raised canyon walkway
The entrance section uses a narrow walkway fixed beside the rock wall above the water. It gives you the first dramatic view into the gorge without immediately requiring a river crossing.
Cold spring water
One of the most memorable points is where powerful spring water emerges through the rocks. Even in hot weather, the water can feel extremely cold compared with the air outside the gorge.
Water crossing
Past the easier viewing area, the experience can involve stepping into moving water. Depth and force vary with conditions, so do not assume every visit offers the same route.
Narrow limestone walls
The gorge becomes visually impressive because the walls rise steeply and sometimes close in tightly. Official regional tourism material notes that some sections narrow to only a few metres.
Riverside food stops
Simple restaurants and seating areas around the entrance make Saklikent easy to turn into a half-day stop. This is useful if you are combining the gorge with Tlos rather than rushing straight back to Fethiye.
Rafting and adventure options
Rafting and other adventure activities are offered in the wider river area. Treat these as separate activities with their own operators, safety briefings and live conditions rather than as part of the basic canyon entrance.
Saklikent is a national park, not only a summer attraction.
The official Nature Conservation and National Parks listing says Saklikent National Park was declared on 6 June 1996 and covers about 1,643 hectares across the Mugla–Antalya border area.
The canyon landscape was shaped by flowing water cutting into the rock over a very long period. Today the contrast between narrow stone walls, cold spring water and the hot summer climate is a major reason travellers include it in a Fethiye itinerary.
Because it is a protected natural area, conditions matter more than a fixed sightseeing timetable. Heavy water flow, weather or local safety decisions can change how much of the canyon is accessible on a particular day.
The official park listing currently publishes 08:30–19:00, but canyon access is condition-dependent.
The current official Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP) nature-tourism listing for Saklikent National Park shows published visiting hours of 08:30–19:00.
Those are park hours. They should not be read as a promise that visitors can always walk deep into the canyon. Official Fethiye tourism material warns that water rises during winter and describes canyon entry as a summer activity. Even during the warmer season, recent rain and local water conditions can affect the safe route.
Going2Turkey therefore does not publish a fixed “you can always walk X kilometres” promise. Follow the current on-site instructions and turn back when the water, footing or crowding no longer feels comfortable.
Entrance charges can change. The official park listing is the best place to recheck current status and contact details, so this page does not hard-code a long-term ticket price.
There are really two Saklikent experiences: the easier entrance section and the deeper water walk.
Walkway + first viewpoint
If you mainly want the canyon atmosphere, the raised entrance walkway gives you a useful visit without committing to a long wade. The surface can still be wet, narrow and busy.
Crossing the cold water
Going farther can mean stepping through moving water over uneven stones. The force and depth vary, so balance and secure footwear matter more than distance.
Water shoes with grip
Choose shoes that stay on your feet and can get completely wet. Loose flip-flops are a poor choice for moving water and slippery rock. Quick-drying clothes are practical.
Keep valuables simple
Use a waterproof pouch or small dry bag for your phone, wallet and car key if you plan to enter the water. Carry only what you are comfortable getting splashed.
A practical one-day history-and-nature route from Fethiye or Oludeniz.
Tlos Ancient City
Start with Tlos while the archaeological site is cooler. Allow around 1.5–2 hours for the rock tombs, theatre, stadium and acropolis views.
Lunch around Yaka / route
Take a flexible lunch break before the gorge. This gives you time to cool down, refill water and avoid turning the day into one rushed stop after another.
Saklikent Gorge
Finish with the cooler canyon environment. Allow roughly 1.5–3 hours depending on whether you stay near the walkway or continue into the water section.
Drive independently for control; choose a jeep safari when the adventure day matters more than detailed sightseeing.
Independent visit: best if you want to spend proper time at Tlos, arrive at Saklikent when you choose and decide how much of the canyon you want to explore. A car also makes it easier to stop for lunch without following a group timetable.
Organised jeep safari: useful if you want hotel pickup, a social day, water fights and several activity stops. These tours are designed as adventure days, so they may pass Tlos or use it only as a photo stop rather than giving you a full archaeological visit.
Always read the current itinerary before paying because rafting, waterfall stops, entry charges and extras can differ by product and date.

Saklikent Gorge questions.
Is Saklikent Gorge worth visiting?
Yes if you enjoy dramatic natural scenery, cool water and an active half-day outside Fethiye. You do not need to complete a long water walk to enjoy it; the entrance walkway and spring-water section already give a strong canyon experience.
What are the current Saklikent National Park opening hours?
As reviewed in September 2026, the official Nature Conservation and National Parks listing publishes 08:30–19:00. These are park hours; deeper canyon access can still change with water and safety conditions.
Can I enter Saklikent Gorge in winter?
Do not assume so. Official Fethiye tourism material warns that water levels rise during winter and describes canyon entry as a summer activity. The park may have published opening hours while the deeper gorge route is unsafe or closed.
How long do I need at Saklikent Gorge?
Allow around 1.5–3 hours for most visits. The shorter end works for the walkway, main canyon views and a break near the entrance; allow longer if conditions are suitable and you plan to wade farther into the gorge.
What should I wear at Saklikent Gorge?
Wear secure water shoes with good grip if you plan to enter the water, plus quick-drying clothes. Keep your phone, wallet and car key in a waterproof pouch or small dry bag because splashing is common.
Can I combine Saklikent Gorge and Tlos in one day?
Yes. It is one of the most practical day combinations from Fethiye or Oludeniz. Visit Tlos in the morning, stop for lunch around the Yaka route, then spend the afternoon at Saklikent while following current water-access instructions.
Saklikent adds a dramatic nature stop to a western Lycia itinerary.
Use it as the landscape half of a Tlos + Saklikent day, then keep Xanthos, Letoon and Patara for a separate archaeology-focused route if you have another day.
