This route works because every major move continues generally west and south. You do not drive back to Istanbul, and you do not add Cappadocia simply because it is famous. Cappadocia is excellent, but it makes much more sense in a two-week road trip or as a separate flight-based section.

Keep sightseeing days and driving days separate whenever possible.
Day 1 — Istanbul Old City
Start without a car. Base yourself near Sultanahmet, Sirkeci, Karakoy or another area with easy public transport. Focus on Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and one major palace or museum rather than trying to see everything.
Finish with a Bosphorus ferry or waterfront evening. You will have enough logistics later in the trip, so the first day should feel simple.
Day 2 — Bosphorus and neighbourhood Istanbul

Day 3 — Istanbul to Canakkale

The 1915 Canakkale Bridge and modern motorway network can make the crossing straightforward, but toll charges apply on parts of the route.
Stay in Canakkale town if you want an easy waterfront evening, restaurants and simple access to Troy the next morning. If Gallipoli is a major reason for the trip, adjust the day so you spend more time on the peninsula before crossing the Dardanelles.
Day 4 — Troy, then Canakkale to Selcuk
Visit Troy early. The archaeological site is much easier to understand if you read some context first or use a guide. After Troy, continue south toward Selcuk. This is one of the longer driving days, so do not add several secondary coastal towns just because they appear on the map.
Reach Selcuk in the evening. Selcuk is a better road-trip base than central Izmir if Ephesus is your priority because parking and morning access are easier.
Day 5 — Ephesus and Selcuk
Keep the car mostly parked. Visit Ephesus early, then add the Basilica of St John, Ephesus Museum or Sirince depending on your interests. This is intentionally a low-driving day after two transfer days.
Day 6 — Selcuk to Pamukkale
Drive inland to Pamukkale, usually around three hours before stops. Arriving by late morning or early afternoon gives you time for Hierapolis and the travertines without an early-morning rush from another city.
Stay one night. Pamukkale usually works better as a route stop than a multi-night base on a 10-day road trip.
Day 7 — Pamukkale to Fethiye
